Dr. Wike holds a Bachelor of Science and a Doctorate of Optometry both from the University of Houston.  After graduation in 1996 Dr Wike moved to the Dallas area and begin practicing optometry.  He has guided many patients in the proper course of treatment for dry eye problems, cataract surgery and diabetic retinopathy.  As an active member of Texas Optometric Association and American Optometric Association he attends many meetings each year to learn of new treatments and medications.

Dr Wike has the philosophy of treating the eye as part of the whole body.  Each exam starts with a review of current medications and health conditions along with the reason for visit.  From this review the necessary testing can be determined and a plan of care initiated.  He believes in reviewing all imaging  and test results with the patients so they can see what he sees and understand why the plan of care is comprised of its elements.

Dr Wike believes an ‘eye exam’ is really a series of exams which proceed from the outside in.  First the eyelids will be examined and the glands inside the eyelids will be imaged.  Then the tear film will be assessed to ensure it not only is the volume it should be but also has the correct level of osmolarity.  Only then can the eye itself be looked at to make sure all is normal.  This exam will also involve a review of retinal imaging which allows the doctor to assess the health of the nerves, arteries and veins in the deeper layers of the eye.  Lastly testing of the visual field may be done which is a test of the visual pathway as it travels from your eye to the visual cortex located in the back portion of the brain.

Dr. Wike is married with two children who are both currently in college.  His oldest attends Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles majoring in marketing and his youngest attends the University of California - Los Angeles as a pre-med student.  His hobbies include running, biking, scuba diving and traveling.
